I recently had to make a trip to the Home Depot for a project I’ve been working on in my backyard. For years the garden behind my home has been ignored and is now covered in weeds that are slowly spilling over to the rest of the yard. Unfortunately, I am not much of a gardener or landscaper. This is where Home Depot comes into the story. Despite my general lack of handiness, the staff at Home Depot was able to help me successfully complete my project. The first step was to remove pretty much everything from the garden areas – weeds, rocks, even the few blooming flowers. Before I was to start planning the arrangement of new flowers, the staff at Home Depot suggested that I build a nice rock border around the outside of the garden. When I told these plans to some friends they couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of me building a rock wall of this size. I’m not going to lie and say that it was an easy project, because for me it was anything but easy. But the Home Depot staff was able to guide me through this project with helpful advice at every step of the way.
In addition to proving my friends wrong (which is enough of a reward enough in itself), I had a great sense of personal satisfaction at the beauty of my new garden. I also thoroughly enjoyed the similarity of my experience with the recent Home Depot commercials that depict people coming into the store with plans of all kinds seeking out their expertise and equipment to make their plans a reality. I never realized just how true those commercials were until I was the one walking into Home Depot with an image of what I wanted but no idea of how to do it.
