Having one of your children attend home school is becoming less and less common. Increasingly, both parents are entering the workforce, making it unfeasible for someone to stay for home school. As well, the requirements for further education are becoming much more strict and standardized, and many institutions will no longer admit someone who attended a home school. Despite the increase in number of students that go to home school, the resources available can now rival even the most prestigious private schools. Thus, even when parents cannot spend five days a week with their child at home school, alternatives are abundant for those looking for such a service.
The internet has become an extremely valuable source for those at home school. Students can obtain course materials, do their research, and even take their tests online. The only problem is that many children often require parent supervision to make sure they are actually doing their home school work on the computer, and not simply playing games or chatting with friends. For home school students that are more visual learners, education companies are publishing interactive DVDs that allow a student to follow a lesson on their TV. Again, there arises the risk that a child will watch their favorite show instead of doing their home school work. Finally, parents can now order detailed home school kits that include all materials for both student and teacher. Despite all of these wonderful resources, the biggest obstacle remains the discipline of the child who will almost certainly need parental supervision in order to attend home school effectively.
